Important BMU Equipment Update: Astro and Titan Winches

If your Building Maintenance Unit features Astro or Titan winches, the following information is relevant to the ongoing operation and compliance of your system.

Astro Winches: Production Has Ceased

Astro winch production has stopped. For buildings currently operating BMUs fitted with Astro winches, this has practical implications: spare parts will become progressively harder to source, repair options will narrow, and the cost of keeping the system running will increase over time.

The sensible course of action is to begin assessing replacement options now, before you are managing an unplanned breakdown with no viable repair path. A proactive approach gives you control over timing and specification. A reactive approach, when the system fails, takes that control away.

Titan Winches: Still in Production, But Age Matters

Titan winches remain in production, which is a different situation. However, ageing Titan systems, typically those 15 or more years old, should be assessed for replacement even where they are still operating. Older systems may be running reliably by current measures while quietly accumulating risk.

Signs Your Winch System Needs Attention

Regardless of winch brand, the following signs indicate a system that warrants formal assessment:

  • Increased frequency of unplanned maintenance callouts
  • Difficulty sourcing spare parts locally or within a reasonable lead time
  • Reduced operational reliability or intermittent faults
  • Safety features that no longer reflect current standards
