Vertimax can offer tailored solutions to ensure your Building Maintenance Unit (BMU) and Facade Access installations are compliant to Australian standards and fit for purpose for complete access to your building’s facade. Our experienced project team can design, manufacture and install your BMU along with any other facade access systems and equipment.

The Vertimax team have many years of experience in completing modernisations and new installations. We have the in-house skills to design and project manage the smallest of modernisations to substantial one off projects.

When it comes to Building Maintenance Units, our team is one of the most experienced in Australia with extensive knowledge on all makes and models. We can replace your BMU, upgrade and repair it and provide maintenance services per the Australian Standards. Works can include BMU track installation or repairs, scissor platform installation or upgrades and various commercial plant. We ensure our customer’s plant is installed and remains compliant with AS/NZS 2550.13.

Our Mechanical and Electrical technicians have worked with many complex machines that give them a broad range of skills.  They are trained to complete major inspections, overhaul traction winches such as Tiraks and Power Climbers and have completed many major BMU upgrades and modifications over the years. Our team is flexible and work from many different states when larger BMU projects are to be completed.

Being a preferred supplier of a global BMU brand, we also offer our clients new installations with extended warranty service contracts.

BMU Installation

All equipment will eventually reach the end of its expectant life and building maintenance units are no exception. Although a BMU life can be extended by proactive management and ongoing maintenance, more and more clients are seeing the benefits of replacing their existing BMU at the 25-30 year mark.

So whether you are constructing a new building which requires a facade access system to gain safe and fit for purpose access to the facade or the original BMU has reached its end of life and the best viable option is to replace it, then Vertimax can assist from concept and geometry studies, through to constructability studies and final installation and commission of any new BMU. Through our network of partners that span the globe we can complete all the required access for any new or existing building.

BMU Major Upgrades

Many Building Maintenance Units often become hard to source OEM parts due to lack of support by the OEM after the ten year mark, discontinued lines or company closures. It is quite often then, that it is more beneficial to upgrade a BMU to ensure parts can be sourced for the remaining life or well into the future. Major upgrades always result in safer and more efficient systems with better usability features and service monitoring through the use of HMI systems and PLC’s incorporated into the upgraded units. Vertimax has completed many major upgrades to extend the life of a facade access system, remove stakeholder frustrations and ensure compliance with the current standards. Should you believe your Building Maintenance Unit still has a modern structural design but has worn or outdated hoisting and control systems, then give our sales engineering team a call to see what we can do for you.

At Vertimax we offer repairs and upgrades to existing BMUs and associated plant and equipment. Our services range from minor works to re-ropes and PLC system upgrades. Most packages can be tailored to meet the building’s requirements and customer budgets.

With our professional approach to contract and project management, you will see us implement Safety Management Plans for both service contracts and upgrade projects. So when you’re are looking to maintain your BMU and height safety access system, our Access division is who you need.

The Access division consists of trades people disciplined in the field of Mechanical Fitters, Electricians, Boilermakers (Welder), and Carpenters.

Hazard & Risk Assessments

As the focus on building owners responsibilities for the people and the contractors that enter their sites are forever increasing, Vertimax is well placed to not only undertake a risk assessment of your facade access assets, but also carry out any works the assessment may highlight.

A review of your assets and exposure of risks is essential to meeting the requirements of the 1995 Plant Regulations which is a stipulated requirement within the Occupational Health & Safety Act. Our assessments take into account AS 2550.13 and AS 1418.13, which is the Australian Standard for Building Maintenance Units and are completed in accordance with these Acts, Regulations and Standards. These risk assessments ensure that building owners and managing representatives have completed everything reasonably practicable to keep the users and contractors safe while using and working with your facade access equipment.

Many skills sets are required for BMU installations from riggers to boilermakers, fitters and electricians. Vertimax has well trained staff to complete all these works in house.

Moving Structures: Automated Roofs and Doors

At Vertimax, we specialise in designing and installing complex moving structures, including automated moving roofs and doors for sports arenas and large-scale venues. Our expertise ensures seamless integration of these systems, enhancing both functionality and visitor experience.

One of our standout projects was the John Cain Arena Moving Roof Upgrade, a critical infrastructure enhancement completed ahead of the 2025 Australian Open. With only a five-week window to complete the work, we successfully navigated logistical challenges, adverse weather conditions, and tight timelines. Our team rewired the moving roof, installed new operational equipment, replaced all eight slide bearings, and integrated high-definition cameras for remote monitoring. To tackle limited headroom, we designed specialist lifting equipment to safely maneuver 900kg components. Thanks to our meticulous planning and execution, the moving roof operated flawlessly during the tournament, reaffirming our reputation as the trusted partner for complex infrastructure solutions.

We also played a key role in the Adelaide Oval redevelopment, where we designed and installed automated operable roofs and facade elements. These installations provided increased flexibility for event management and enhanced the spectator experience.

With over 25 years of experience in moving structures, we continue to deliver innovative, safe, and high-performing solutions tailored to the unique needs of each venue.
